The VIUCEDD is a federally funded program of the Administration for Community Living, a part of the Department of Human Services. We work to implement a bridge between research and practice and bring evidence-based research and the best-level of practice to our community.

The Virgin Islands University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities was established at the University of the Virgin Islands 22 year ago by its first executive director, Dr. Yegin Habtes.

Four core functions frame our program:
  • Interdisciplinary, pre-service preparation and continuing education
  • Research, including basic or applied research, evaluation, and public policy analysis
  • Information dissemination
  • Community services, including direct services, training, technical assistance, and model demonstrations

We accomplish our goals through activities related to our 4 core functions, which are research, information dissemination, community service, and technical assistance.
